A carefully considered renovation and extension of a 1940s home in Geelong, designed to evolve with a growing family. The project was delivered in two stages, allowing the owners to remain in their home throughout construction. A new kitchen, pantry, laundry, dining, and living space anchor the extension, defined by a soaring 4-metre gable ceiling and bathed in northern light—an intentional response to the site’s orientation and passive design principles.
The material palette embraces warmth and longevity. A solid timber island bench softens the crisp white kitchen, while hardwood floors provide a natural foundation throughout. The interiors are layered with muted, earthy tones, wainscoting, and VJ panelling, bringing depth and character to both old and new spaces. In the existing home, the former kitchen was reimagined as a master retreat, complete with a private courtyard, walk-in robe, and ensuite. Locally made tapware and considered material choices enhance sustainability, ensuring the home will stand the test of time.

Here’s what our clients had to say:
“Maddy was incredible to work with! I came to her with a really challenging project. Turning a 1940’s old commission home into a stunning cottage house that still keeps to its heritage.
Maddy helped us through the whole process of plans/ permits and interior design.
She incorporated all our ideas in the plans. Was very easy to work and always willing to answer questions.
Definitely could not of achieved what we have done so far without her.”

“We used Maddy for our home renovations. We were initially very overwhelmed going into it but Maddy has made us feel at ease from the very beginning. She has an amazing eye to detail and has presented various concepts to us a long the way. She made a conscious effort to ensure her designs and ideas were based on what we want in a home as well as ensuring practicality wasn’t lost. We have loved having Maddy design our dream and lux home.”
